This morning I woke up early, and was in my doctor’s office by 9 a.m.  He wants me to do something that is called a  pill capsule study. This is for the on and off bleeding problem that I have been having for the last 2 years. For those of you who have never had this done, I will explain how it works. The nurse asks you to remove you shirt, and then to lie down on the table. She then attaches some probes with cables on you stomach, and then plugs them into a small box that you will carry around all day. It weighs about a pound, but it sits in its own carrying case, which straps around your neck, and sits on your side. Then, once all that is in place, she gives you a large pill that looks like a tylenol. This contains a tiny camera. As the camera passes through your system, the box will record pictures each hour. There is nothing hard to this process, and it doesn’t hurt.  You can eat and drink during the time that you are wearing it. I will have to go back to my doctor’s office today at 4:30 p.m., and they will remove the box, and probes. It will take a few hours to download on the computer, which will allow my doctor to review it,  like a movie. The whole object of this test is to try to pinpoint the exact location of my internal bleeding. It is better than an X-ray, and pictures are very detailed, so I’ve been told. So, I should know by tomorrow if there is any news, good or bad, or if I have to go in for surgery. I have done this test before, but it couldn’t provide anything specific for my doctor, so I am hoping that the second time around is better for me. Wish me luck.  Oh, and in case you are wondering, yes, the tiny camera is disposable. I asked!
